The other half of the avant-garde forty years later

Meetings and conferences , Book presentation

Milan, 1980. Art critic Lea Vergine is the curator of "L'altra metà dell'avanguardia 1910-1940" (The Other Half of the Avant-Garde 1910-1940), an exhibition on over one hundred women artists active in the avant-garde movement at the beginning of the 20th century, and excluded from art history.

Forty years later, art historian Angela Maderna analyses the cultural context of the time, the debate triggered by the exhibition and its legacy, both in the field of gender studies, of education and dissemination.

Starting from Lea Vergine's research and the different positions of Italian feminist movements, the book denounces how even today the main studies forget the protagonists of art history.

On the occasion of the International Women's Day, author Angela Maderna talks with art historian Elvira Vannini.
