Trentino Unexpected

An outcome of the collaboration between Trentino Marketing and Gribaudo, whose call the Rovereto Mart responded to enthusiastically, Trentino Unexpected is a major cultural project.
The photography book of the same name, one of the most prestigious ever published by Gribaudo, is now also an extensive exhibition of large and very large-format photographs that show Trentino in all its numerous facets.
With its forests, castles, glaciers and vineyards, Trentino is home to landscapes and stories, nature and industry, panoramic views and relationships.
To recount this complexity, an invitation was extended to six renowned professional photographers whose work ranges from art to reportage and photojournalism:
Simone Bramante, Francesco Jodice, Gabriele Micalizzi, Roselena Ramistella, Massimo Sestini and Newsha Tavakolian.
Their task is to freely, and in their own style, convey their point of view on Trentino.
Both the book and exhibition are being curated by the photography critic Denis Curti, artistic director of Le Stanze della Fotografia in Venice and of the Festival della Fotografia in Bibbiena, author of essays and catalogues on the language of images.
The exhibition itinerary includes 86 photographs, divided into 6 sections, one per photographer.
To accentuate the originality of each author's work, every section is different, involving medium-sized to immense photographs, picture galleries, diptychs, traditional or more innovative displays. By recognizing the deeply personal and diverse points of view, a composite narrative is created.
Far from stereotypes and postcards, Trentino Unexpected shows places, gives voices to people, ponders social changes, the roots of identity, and the values of the land. At the entrance to the exhibition are banners announcing the project's key words: boundaries, verticality, authenticity, care and impression.
