With Sword and Cross. Longobards in Civezzano

Con Spada e Croce. Longobardi a Civezzano | With Sword and Cross. Longobards in Civezzano, the exhibition to be visited at the Buonconsiglio Castle until 20 October 2024, tells the story of the Longobards in Trentino through the masterpieces found in the tombs of the "princess" and the "prince" of Civezzano, exhibited together for the first time.

This exhibition is the result of the collaboration between the Castello del Buonconsiglio and the Tiroler Landesmuseum Ferdinandeum of Innsbruck, the important institution in Innsbruck that preserves many artefacts of Trentino origin, and with which a relationship of great collaboration has been maintained and consolidated over the years.

The sumptuous sarcophagus of the 'Prince of Civezzano', embellished with refined wrought-iron decorations of stylised animals. The striking gold jewellery of the 'Princess of Civezzano' tells of Byzantine contacts, but also of a strong link with her own Germanic traditions.

The exhibition is curated by Annamaria Azzolini, Veronica Barbacovi and Wolfgang Sölder.
