ZimmerFrei - Family Affair

Family Affair is an anthropological exploration. How many types of families exist? How many types of narratives are produced within the same family? What different society will the new generations build? When will we become native Europeans?
Between 2015 and 2017, ZimmerFrei met and interviewed around 45 families, more than 100 people living in different and distant cities across Europe (Lille, Lausanne, Forli, Budapest, Milan, Ghent, Warsaw, Valenciennes, Cagliari, Torres Novas). Each person is portrayed in their own home, in silence, with their eyes closed, listening to the sounds of the house or to other people in the house.
The video work Family Affair is an invitation to listen to a myriad of voices, an endless series of micro-stories and a nascent epic that feeds the grand narrative of Europe as an imagined continent, where similarities and assonances are always greater than differences.
