Álvaro Siza, the architect as "imaginative profession"

Álvaro Siza. Inside the human being tells us about an architect’s practice.  Exhibition at Mart – Museum of modern and contemporary art of Rovereto – until 8 February

[ _1_medium, Mart]

Siza’s practice is based on his own personal experiences, on curiosity (he absorbs everything around him, since, in his words, “ landscape is whatever exists in a person’s visual field”) and on the transformation processes that are applied to reality, from the “conceiving” phase to the implementation of the design.

This is Álvaro Siza’s method: it “uses” man to “measure” the man.

“It’s about transforming the space in the same way in which we transform ourselves. Nature - as home to man - and man - as a creator of nature - absorb everything: they either accept or reject what has a transitory shape; anything leaves a mark on them both. Starting from isolated pieces, we look for the space that supports them” (Álvaro Siza in Professione poetica (introduction), Electa, Milan, 1986).

Álvaro Siza is a leading master of contemporary architecture and the exhibition Álvaro Siza. Inside the human being at Mart – Museum of modern and contemporary art of Rovereto – until 8 February, presenting his conception of architecture, was organized by Roberto Cremascoli with the participation of Alvaro Siza and Chiara Porcu; exhibition project by Studio Cremascoli, Okumura, Rodrigues.
