Renaissance landscapes

A series of meetings dedicated to the Renaissance started on 15 January at the Buonconsiglio Castle - sala Marangonerie -; this theme is examined involving architectural, artistic and historical perspectives.

The fascinating theme of the Renaissance - time of great social change, but also of artistic and architectural transformations -  will be the main topic dealt with at the afternoon meetings (at 16.30) that will be held from 15 January  until 11 May  at the Buonconsiglio castle.

This series of seminars for teachers, held by scholars and experts, are also open to people keen on history and local art; it’s an opportunity to increase one’s knowledge on Renaissance in Trentino. Alessandro Paris organized the first two meetings (on 15 and 22 January), dealing with the political, administrative and social peculiarities of Trentino in the early sixteenth century; this area was at the time on the border between the Nordic world and the influence of the Roman – Mediterranean culture.

In the third meeting historian Carlo Andrea Postingher will examine the architectural evolution which turned the medieval fortresses of Trentino into “palazzi”.

Other meetings will deal with issues in Renaissance building construction (Annamaria Azzolini), decorations of castles (Marina Botteri and Chiara Radice), iconography (Laura Dal Prà), the Magno Palazzo (Francesca de Gramatica), mythological themes (Lia Camerlengo), and suburban villas in Renaissance Trento (Francesca Jurman).
