Trentino's Autonomy Day

Free admission to the castles of the Autonomous Province of Trento

On Thursday 5 September, the Buonconsiglio Castle, the Beseno Castle, the Caldes Castle, the Stenico Castle and the Thun Castle will be open with free admission to commemorate Trentino's Autonomy Day.

The aim is to celebrate the Autonomy Day, which was established to commemorate the Italian-Austrian Agreement signed in Paris on 5 September 1946, by the then Italian Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Alcide De Gasperi from Trentino, and the Austrian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Karl Gruber.

In particular, this year will also mark 52 years since the entry into force of the second Statute of Autonomy, which made Trentino Alto Adige a region consisting of the two autonomous provinces of Trento and Bolzano.

The Buonconsiglio Castle is the largest and most important monumental complex of the Trentino Alto Adige region. It was the residence of the prince-bishops of Trento from the 13th century to the end of the 18th century. Castelvecchio is the oldest nucleus; the Magno Palazzo is the 16th century expansion and is one of the most sumptuous Renaissance-style palaces in Italy.
