The history of Trentino can be traced back to the first prehistoric finds dating between 9000 and 4500 years b.C. But it may be said that the history of the community of Trentino has defined its identity only after Christianity took root in the region. This happened between the fourth and the fifth century, at the time of St. Vigilius, bishop of Trento. The domination of the Goths, the Lombards and the Franks over three centuries shaped Trentino’s cultural heterogeneity, which was unique for that time. At the beginning of the year 1000, the Prince Bishopric of Trento came into being; such institution marked Trentino’s history for more than 800 years.

Le Gallerie are not a traditional museum, perhaps not even a museum.
They are more a workshop and a participatory place; a cultural space where different languages interact in order to promote an awareness of history, excite the curiosity and raise questions.

This fort was part of the permanent group of Austrian fortifications which defended end enclosed the main connecting routes of the regional capital. Together with the blockhouse Doss Sponde, it was intended to form a rampart barrage, straddling the descending road from Cadine to Trento.
