In order to defend the higher plains of Garda, a barrage was built at Nago with the aim of impeding every possible infiltration in the Adige Valley via the Nago-San Giovanni Pass-Mori-Rovereto route.
In order to defend the higher plains of Garda, a barrage was built at Nago with the aim of impeding every possible infiltration in the Adige Valley via the Nago-San Giovanni Pass-Mori-Rovereto route. The fort consisted of two parts: a bigger one higher up and a smaller one lower down. The biggest one had two levels and was truly a great fort. It was in the southern part of the town, on a rocky cliff face that looms out towards the lake on the old road to Torbole and built with limestone blocks. It was supported by the “Sagron Battery” (1880-1881 and demolished in 1900), situated on the last layer of Mount Baldo, in the same position as the fort itself. The whole fort consisted of 2 levels with 2 lines of embrasures, one on top of the other. This was the only fort with vertical defences of the first generation. It was disarmed during The First World War.
