From sound to mystery: De musica, by Agostino d'Ippona, between science, pleasure and mysticism

Meetings and conferences

A journey through the theology of Agostino di Ippona and a reflection on the possible cognitive-ethical role of music. On Friday 25 February at 21.00 at Palazzo delle Albere, the conference/show will be staged as an unprecedented collaboration between philosophers, musicians and scientists. A journey through Agostino's theology and a reflection on the possible cognitive-ethical role of music.

The event is part of the temporary exhibition "Il Viaggio meraviglioso tra scienza e filosofia" (The Wonderful Journey. Through Science and Philosophy ), on display at Palazzo delle Albere until 5 June 2022, and of the conference programme "Interpretation - Network of relations generated by a work of art".

Scientific discussion and Gregorian chant will take turns in order to offer to the audience a reading of Agostino's De musica as an attempt at a paradigm shift: from the perception of a disordered world to the cognition of a cosmos governed by a providential God, who can be largely comprehensible with the tools of logic or science.

Event organised in collaboration with the University of Trento - Department of Literature and Philosophy and the F.N. Bonporti Conservatory of Trento and Riva del Garda.
with the endorsement of Festival Trento MusicAntica, Festival Musica Sacra, Fondazione Bruno Kessler, BlogTeatro e Critica.
