Golden threads and silk paintings. Velvet and embroidery between Gothic and Renaissance
An exhibition that tells the story of sacred fabrics through paintings and precious velvets and embroideries between the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries.

Gleaming velvet copes, shining chasubles with gold and silver thread embroideries, rare dalmatics with colourful silk needlework, precious Florentine and Venetian ornate fabrics, alongside some valued religious paintings by Altobello Melone, Michele Giambono, Francesco Torbido, Rocco Marconi and two amazing artworks of the unknown Master of Hoogstraeten.
Through works of weaving, embroidery and painting, the exhibition explores the history of the sumptuous fabrics produced in Italy and Northern Europe from the second half of the 15th century to the early 16th century.
These rich garments with gold and silk embroideries had been manufactured in renowned centres such as Florence, Venice and Milan, which could ensure both technical and formal perfection.
