A mixture of nature and culture: here are some of the most beautiful faces of an eclectic city that relies on its history and looks at the future

Pending the appointment, on January 31, here are the ten finalists for the title of Italian Capital of Culture for 2018, chosen unanimously by the jury chaired by Stefano Baia Curioni among the 21 participating cities:

1. Alghero, province of Sassari, Sardinia
2. Aquileia, province of Udine, Friuli Venezia Giulia
3. Comacchio, province of Ferrara, Emilia Romagna 
4. Ercolano, province of Naples, Campania
5. Montebelluna, province of Treviso, Veneto
6. Palermo, Sicily 
7. Recanati, province of Macerata, Marche 
8. Settimo Torinese, province of Torino, Piedmont
9. Trento, Trentino Alto Adige
10. Group of municipalities Elimo Ericini (Buseto Palizzolo, Custonaci, Erice, Paceco, San Vito Lo Capo and Valderice), province of Trapani, Sicily

Buonconsiglio Castle

The Buonconsiglio Castle is the largest and most important monumental complex of the Trentino Alto Adige region. It was the residence of the prince-bishops of Trento from the 13th century to the end of the 18th century. Castelvecchio is the oldest nucleus; the Magno Palazzo is the 16th century expansion and is one of the most sumptuous Renaissance-style palaces in Italy.

Muse - Science Museum

Expect a major visitor attraction, a multimedia experience and a beacon of scientific excellence. The exhibitions favour a hands-on approach to science, at once educational but engaging. Inaugurated in 2013, the museum explores the relationship between nature, science and society and also considers the impact of science on everyday life.

Le Gallerie are not a traditional museum, perhaps not even a museum. 
They are more a workshop and a participatory place; a cultural space where different languages interact in order to promote an awareness of history, excite the curiosity and raise questions.
